Official Drink of the 2013 Kentucky Bourbon Festival
Each year, during the Kentucky Bourbon Festival, a Mixed Drink Challenge determines the Official Drink of the next year's Bourbon Festival. A number of area bars and restaurants compete for the drink that will hold the title.

15 oz. Bulleit Bourbon
30-40 fresh mint leaves
Simple Syrup solution (1 cup sugar and 1 cup water)
Preparation:
Wash mint leaves, pat dry and put them in a small mixing bowl. Cover with 3 oz. of Bulleit Bourbon and let soak for 15 minutes.
Remove mint, then place in a clean cotton cloth and wring over bowl, bruising the leaves. Dip back into bourbon and wring again. Repeat several times to create mint extract. Set extract aside for one hour. You can also put the leaves back in the extract for a more concentrated mint flavor.
Combine mint extract (leaves included, if preferred) with simple syrup in a covered glass container or jar and refrigerate overnight.
Fill julep cups with crushed or shaved ice and insert a fresh mint sprig. Add 1 oz. of Bulleit Bourbon to each cup. Add marinated julep mixture to taste.

10 Cane Rum Punch
Forgot to take a picture of it, but wanted to share with you the 10 Cane Rum Punch Drink Recipe I came up with for my sister's birthday party. It was gone in no time flat!
Ingredients:
4 cups Juicy Juice Cherry Juice
2 cups Mr. and Mrs. T's Sweet & Sour Mix
200ml 10 Cane Rum
1/2 pint fresh blueberries
1/2 pint fresh cherries
3 small sliced lemons
2 ice trays filled with cherry juice
Directions:
Place 2 ice trays filled with cherry juice in the freezer at least 5 hours before time to make the punch.
Empty 2 trays of cherry juice ice into medium size punch bowl.
Pour in 10 Cane Rum, cherry juice, Sweet & Sour Mix and fresh fruit.
Don't forget your ladle for serving!

White Chocolate Pudding Shots
This is one of my favorite summer time treats. They taste like a spiked Wendy's Frosty!
And it's really easy to make!
Here's the drink recipe for you...
White Chocolate Pudding Shots
Ingredients:
1 large box chocolate pudding mix
1-1/2 cup milk
3/4 cup vodka
1/2 cup Merry's White Chocolate Irish Crème Liqueur
1 8oz. package of Cool Whip
Directions:
Combine the chocolate pudding mix, milk, vodka and Merry's Irish Crème Liqueur in a large bowl, and Mix well with an electric mixer.
Fold in Cool Whip.
Pour in plastic containers and cover with lids.
Freeze for at least 4 hours before serving.
Makes about 30.

If you like cream liqueurs, you might try shots of the Tres Leches Triple Cream Liqueur chilled. Quite tasty!

This one was definitely my favorite out of all 9 tables, which is less than the norm for their tastings. For some reason? there were no beer companies at this month's tasting. Hopefully, some will show up next month, for the 'Disco' themed tasting on June 20th.

Sprigs of fresh mint
Crushed ice
Early Times Kentucky Whisky

St. Patrick's Tasting Event
Taking time here to evaluate Chalet Party Shoppe's St. Patrick's Tasting Event.
First of all, I brought a rookie with me, so I didn't have the chance to visit all of the tables. But that's ok, because it's always a great opportunity to introduce someone new to Chalet's great tasting events!
Table 10 had the standard Jameson Irish Whiskey, Paddy Irish Whiskey and of course when you're talking Irish whiskey, you can't forget Red Breast.
I'm a huge Jameson fan, but wasn't offered to taste that one. I did, however, ask to taste the Red Breast 12 Year. I was surprised that it wasn't smoother, at $49.99 a bottle. The taste was good, with a peppery spice finish and hints of a spicy liquorice. Although, I think, I'll stick to my Jack Daniels. (If I want liquorice flavor I'll drink Anisette.)
One of my favorites, Randy of RNDC, was manning Table 6. Randy was probably more prepared for the crowd than anyone. He had an inexpensive Concannon Irish Whiskey mixed with ginger ale, ready to go, that went down smooth. Also, he had poured some Michael Collins Irish Whiskey and Tullamore Dew samples.
The Michael Collins has a very similar taste to one of my favorites, Jameson. It is however, a little less expensive. Smooth, for the every day whiskey drinker.
For a little smoother taste (and not the average whiskey neat drinker), he also had Tullamore Dew poured. Tullamore Dew has a higher concentration of malt than your typical grain whiskeys, and is triple distilled, but still very reasonably priced.
Finally, Table 4, had nothing involving the Irish, but I loved it. It's no surprise that Kevin from Crossroad Vintners had something to trick my trigger.
He had a couple of drinks mixed in shakers and was giving small tastings of those. I got a chance to taste the Mezcal Jalapeno and the Bone Snapper. The Bone Snapper reminded me of the Italian Assassin, which is one of my favorite drinks, just a little lighter. I was surprised I liked the Mezcal Jalapeno, so well, because I'm not typically a hot pepper person. Although, I do enjoy the taste of a good tequila!
Kevin also had a Smokey Margarita and Backbone Manhattan ready for anyone to taste!

For my sidekick, that was a little disappointing. Chalet tasting advisors might consider Moscatos are more popular now because more people like sweeter wines.
However, we did enjoy the new Shock Top HoneyCrisp Apple Wheat Beer, that Anheuser Busch brought to their table. We spent the night comparing it to the Redd's Apple Ale. I enjoyed both, but my sidekick preferred the Shock Top. Just goes to show everyone has their own palate!

Italian Assassin Drink Recipe
I've been drinking Italian Assassin's for years. Fortunately for me, I recently discovered Lazzaroni Amaretto, thanks to Kevin @ Crossroad Vintners.
This is what I consider a 'True' Italian Assassin.

Backbone Manhattan Drink Recipe
Ingredients:
2 oz. Backbone Bourbon
1 oz. Dolin Rouge Vermouth
2 tsp. Angostura Bitters
Maraschino Cherry for garnish
Directions:
Stir ingredients in mixing glass with ice cubes. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with cherry.
And, as always, drink responsibly!

1 oz. Lazzaroni Amaretto
1 oz. Bone Snapper Rye Whiskey

1 ounce rhubarb syrup
2/3 ounce lemon juice
1 teaspoon Gomme syrup
1 stick vanilla poached rhubarb
Directions:
Pour ingredients into a shaker filled with ice. Shake and strain into your favorite cocktail glass. Garnish with a stick of rhubarb.
Jameson Notes: "The silkiness of the vanilla poached rhubarb is the perfect foil to the citrus sour and the warming notes of the Jameson."
Jameson Manhattan with a Playful Twist
Ingredients:
1-2/3 ounces Jameson Whiskey
1 tablespoon Lillet Rouge
2 teaspoons Sweet Sherry
Dash Regans Orange Bitters
Orange Twist
Directions:
Stir the Jameson, Lillet, Sherry and Bitters in a mixing glass filled with rock ice and then strain into a chilled Martini glass before garnishing with the orange twist.
Jameson Notes: "The addition of the sweet sherry brings out the whiskey’s sherry notes. This twisted Manhattan is equally enjoyed at home before or after a meal as it is so rich and luscious."

Tommy Gun Drink Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 thin fresh ginger slices
- 1 teaspoon apricot jam

- 1/2 ounce Grand Marnier
- 1 lemon twist
Directions:
In a cocktail shaker, muddle the ginger with the jam and lemon juice. Add ice and the whiskey and Grand Marnier; shake well. Strain into an ice-filled rocks glass. Garnish with the lemon twist.
Nor'easter Drink Recipe
